The buzz from the latest and greatest Mercedes-Benz New York Fashion Week is still making headlines with excitement for fall 2014, and who could blame them? Even I am a sucker for fall trends. However, the months to come are all about the spring/summer collections we saw just a few months ago on the runway.
In this week’s post, I want to take us back to late last year when the spring 2014 collections had all our attention. Although our focus may have been geared more towards the ladies, menswear for this season is a knockout.
This Fashionisto instantly caught my attention with his patterned pants. When expressing to him how badly I wanted to write about them, he was humbly shocked that I had fallen deeply (maybe too creepily) in love with this pant, or rather the idea behind them. Spring 2014 collections featured patterned jackets and printed pants as the next big fashion statement for men, and this Fashionisto undoubtedly embraces this movement in his patriotic trousers.
When incorporating a pattern into your wardrobe, Fashionistos must be mindful to keep the rest of their outfit more basic. It is also essential for your pants to look well tailored, so stay away from baggy jeans and opt for a more neat and trim pair when patterns are involved. By emphasizing the pattern and focusing on that perfect fit, you will be looking dapper in your dress, as opposed to borderline pajama party.
This Fashionisto’s outfit embodies all of these rules to patterning. The fit of his pant is tailored while still being relaxed and looking casual. Although his pants are quite the statement, when matched with a basic shirt this look simply works.
Patterns have always been prominent in women’s fashion and now we are seeing this crossover into the men’s department that is almost better. This new and fresh trend for spring is something every Fashionisto should daringly experiment with because it’s definitely a risk worth taking.
