STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Layers Are Life!

Ask any Fashionista on campus and they’ll tell you that finals season is definitely the most stressful part of any semester for a number of reasons. For one: exams, projects and papers are an imminent reality. Perhaps more annoying, though, is the unpredictable and often extreme weather that rolls around with the end of the semester. Here at NYU we’ve had a long string of cold, rainy days that have seriously led me to consider skipping class just to avoid stepping outside. And what’s in store for the last two weeks of the semester?  A freezing polar vortex! I mean, what could be better for finals season right?

Erratic weather patterns leave one clear option for Fashionista/os: layering. Layers are the key to balancing comfort and cuteness when dressing for cold days on campus. This Fashionista is a perfect source of inspiration when it comes to layering, as she casually sports layers on campus while always looking cool. She starts with a classic monochromatic look (what is more appropriate than all black for finals week as we prepare to mourn our sleep schedule?), and then adds an open denim jacket and a wool coat. This Fashionista also chose to keep the rest of the outfit simple, with no jewelry and unique wire glasses.

My favorite component of this look is the coat. The print is subtle but adds flair and feels just right for a crisp December day. I also love that the bright blue from this Fashionista’s denim layer is picked up by a blue pinstripe in the coat pattern. The contrast of comfy T-shirt, jean jacket and thick coat also add to the effectiveness of this layered look. The coordination of colors and textures in this Fashionista’s outfit look stylish and pulled together.

Aside from the cozy layers and wintery prints, this Fashionista’s favorite part of the look is the footwear! This Fashionista rocks iconic Fenty x Puma creepers, which carry her monochrome black base all the way down. The shoes take this look to a whole new level. This detail really proves that she is seriously cool and definitely on trend.

Ultimately, the best piece of style advice I can offer for the end of this semester is layer, layer, layer!
