STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Layering With Mixed Textures

February 23rd, 2016 at 2:00am

So far, this winter has been rather unusual in some states—Southern California is experiencing warm weather, while Southeast Pennsylvania is being teased by snow. However, no matter where you live, you are likely to experience both warm and chilly weather during the next couple months, so layering and mixing up fabrics is crucial to accommodate!

So, how does one temperature-control with clothes? Check out this Fashionisto’s look for not only style inspiration, but also for layering techniques. With this outfit, he can adapt to the changing temperatures, whether he is outside in the cold or inside a warm classroom, just by taking off his layers.

The key element in making his look successful is his unique denim-bomber mixed jacket. The coat is a combination of two popular style of jackets—the vintage denim, and the bomber. Underneath it is a striped gray/blue knitted quarter-zip that balances out the urban vibes of the coat with preppy-chic vibes. In addition to these essential layering pieces, his completes the look with rugged, tan leather boots, with the marks and scuffs adding character and unique designs.

Bonus: Did you notice the teal blue patterned socks peeking out under his cuffed pants? It acts as a fun element of surprise and uniformity that complements his blue, plaid scarf. On top of his smart layering, his look is rather playful in color scheme and composition.

What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “I would rather layer than wear thick and bulky coats. It’s more stylish and I can adjust to the temperature.”
