STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Layering Love

As fall comes to a close and winter approaches, Fashionistas are preparing for the cold weather. Staying fashionable in the cold is a real struggle, torn between being glamorous or being warm. The temptation to wear comfy and cozy sweatpants everyday is all too real. What Fashionistas need is a middle ground where being comfy and warm does not need to sacrifice style. The answer to this is layering—taking multiple items that are lighter and layering them together.

What makes layering so great for the winter months is that you can take smaller pieces and put them together to add detail. For example, this Fashionista took a cute chevron patterned scarf and layered it on top of a plain black jacket. This pattern is great for drawing the eye in and giving the outfit more contrast. Another key feature in this Fashionista’s outfit is that she paired her winter jacket with a pair of skinny jeans, counteracting the largeness of the jacket. This detail seems small, but it really puts this outfit together and makes it perfect for the coming winter.

Layering not only adds more interest to an outfit, but it’s great for days when you’ll be outside and inside. There is nothing worse than going inside after a nice day in the cold and getting overheated. Being able to take articles of clothing off is great for people who have school, just like this Fashionista. Underneath her warm jacket and scarf is a light blouse, making this outfit great for when she’s in class!
