STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Layered In Print

April 8th, 2015 at 2:00am

Sometimes, the best way to show off our unique sense of styles is through layering and print-mixing techniques. One of my personal favorite things to do is to mix prints that aren’t really made to go together, such as plaid with a bold animal pattern. I spotted a Fashionista on campus who did this exact thing and created a one-of-a-kind look that was sure to catch anyone’s eye.

This Fashionista explained to me how this was one of her looks for class she threw together after just rolling out of bed, which showed how she obviously has effortlessly great style. I absolutely loved her choice to layer a black and white striped sweater with a button-down plaid shirt and a leopard print jacket over top for outerwear. Rather than hide one of these prints, she let each one show by wearing her button-down shirt and jacket open.

This look came together so nicely because there weren’t too many loud colors incorporated into it. The brightest color in this outfit was the red in her scarf and plaid shirt. The other colors were kept in the neutral family, including white, black, navy, olive green and brown.

My favorite piece of this Fashionista’s outfit was, without a doubt, her leopard print jacket. This style of jacket has the ability to make even the most plain outfit stand out and it’s transitional for various occasions.

For accessories, this Fashionista wore an amazing red tote bag. This purse was large enough to carry her necessities for class, but way more fashionable than a backpack. She also wore an olive green fedora hat, which was an ideal choice to complement her city-chic style. For shoes, she wore a pair of brown Converse with a subtle plaid pattern on the top, adding a fourth print to her outfit.

What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “Take a risk by layering an unusual mix of prints. Start with a striped shirt, layer it with a plaid button-down and finish off your look with a leopard print jacket!”
