Dressing for fall and winter is my absolute favorite; I feel like I am more able to fully express my style through the clothing appropriate for these seasons. Bring on the sweaters, tights and layering galore. However, it is exactly around this time of year that it feels like winter is going to last forever. Suddenly, I’m craving dresses and sandals like I’m some kind of beach goddess. Sweaters and coats suffocate me, and my legs feel itchy behind my skinny jeans and boots. Layering feels beyond boring.
When I spotted this Fashionista on an especially chilly day, I was inspired to be excited about layering again because of her creative take on it. I love the way her long shirt stuck out from under her coat, not to mention her mix of leathers and cool color combination. A hip scarf and hat, plus minimal accessories keep her look sleek.
In order to emulate her collegiate chic look, wear an oversized, long shirt. This one is particularly cool because of its high-low hem. Pair it with a cropped leather jacket to play with the proportions in an interesting way. If you need to be warmer while trotting around campus, throw a shorter parka over everything so your shirt will still peak out at the bottom. Wear your favorite jeans or leggings, plus a great pair of leather boots. Wrap yourself up in a circle scarf, and top your look off with a hat in a fun color.
As much as we may dread it, we’re still going to be layering for quite some time in this great state of Wisconsin. We might as well make it fun, just like this Fashionista did!
