STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Lay on the Layers!

It’s been done for decades but one trend that will never and should never die is layers. You could say I am the biggest fan of layers. For both practical and fashionable (who says there always needs to be a difference) reasons layers are my STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK. This Fashionisto kills the layered look while waiting for a bus in busy London. A college student like himself is often cooped up in a classroom or doing a ton of walking in search of the next destination for class or fun. This is when layers come in handy. Not only are they fashionable but they also can serve a purpose with the frequent temperature changes running indoors and outside.

This Fashionisto starts off his look with a simple, gray, wool sweater. He than pairs the sweater with a fitted light wash denim jacket. His jeans are dark wash, cuffed at the bottom and paired with a great pair of black combat boots. The look has a very simple start that acts as a great foundation for his layered look. He then goes on to add a houndstooth scarf double wrapped for a bigger statement. He also gives a trendy ode to the ’90s, with a flannel tied around his waist. The textures and mixed patterns are essential in layering. With layers it’s important to mix textures and not be afraid to mix patterns either. Mixing patterns together adds another element to layering on top of the actual physical layering of the clothing.

Not only is it important to mix patterns but textures and levels of warmth as well. Add some thin layers and some thick. For example scarves and sweaters versus a light jean  jacket so you can adjust yourself to different temperatures. When you mix textures with both slimming and bulky you will never look too puffy, or larger than you want to look.

What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? Have no fear because layers are here! Don’t be afraid to mix textures, patterns or shapes. The more you mix the more the look will develop and look put together. Layers are practical, and you will always look fashionable with this easy look! You can complete this look using simple clothes but when you mix, match and layer you’ll be flawless (and warm)!
