STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Lay Me Down

November 5th, 2015 at 2:00am

I don’t know about anyone else but I love the feel of a fresh crisp fall breeze. Sadly, down here in Ohio it seems like we skipped fall and went straight to winter. So it’s finally dawning on me that we have to say bye to the warm sun and beaches and turn our hearts over to hot chocolate, pumpkin spice lattes and old St. Nick. Nevertheless, the same rules still apply for staying warm. Layering is a great way to keep yourself warm and look great for these cold months ahead of us.

Layering for me is always so fun to experiment with. I love bright colors and mixing them up or even layering different shades of one color together. Most of my layered looks are inspired by Gossip Girl’s Blair Waldorf, my alter-ego of course. She managed to keep her looks effortlessly cool and sleek. Most of us are afraid of layering because we fear looking bigger or bulkier than we actually are. But there is nothing to be afraid of my fellow Fashionista/o. With layering done the right way it can be a great way to utilize all the extra clothes hanging around in your closet, ultimately creating a whole new outfit you never knew you had. Layering is a way to make you stand out and look unique amongst everyone else rocking their standard fall looks. So the next time you’re getting dressed, look twice at the over washed denim jacket in the deep back of your closet or the sweater your grandmother got you three Christmases ago that you vowed never to wear and put it to good use.

This Fashionisto has the right idea when it comes to layering! Starting his look off with a simple black T-shirt he already defines his shape, avoiding the risk of looking bigger than normal. On top of the T-shirt he adds a black mesh T-shirt giving us a whole different layer in texture which makes the outfit more exciting and appealing. To top of his look, he completes it with a mesh zip-up and an all-black denim jacket. For bottoms he leaves us with some destroyed black denim jeans and his oh so classic black and white Vans. What really got me was not only that he layered perfectly, but he was wearing all-black, which makes every single outfit in the world complete. Let’s not forget about his accessories. His gold watch also makes his outfit stand out.

What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “When it comes to layering I want to feel warm but still look good. Neutral colors are always sliming and look good on anybody. Don’t be afraid to just throw on anything, you will look good because that’s what layering is all about.”
