For some reason that I have yet to understand, whenever winter comes around we Fashionista/os tend to lose our sense of patriotism — in our wardrobe at least. As the winter winds come a-blowing and the snow starts a-snowing, we bury our vintage American flag printed tees in the back of our closets until the sun starts to shine again. It may not make sense, but bringing these fun clothes back out just makes the warm weather that much sweeter.
This Fashionista has the patriotic look down to a T, from the dark blue bandana on her head down to the All-American white Keds on her feet. Acid-washed denim cut-off shorts like hers are super fun for a sunny day, whether you are on the beach for spring break or pretending it’s warmer outside than it is in reality. Miss Selfridge makes a similar pair of high-waist shorts in a light wash. Levi Brand Jeans also has a great pair of cut-offs that are made from recycled vintage material.
The fringed cross-body bag that this Fashionista carries completes the look by adding a rustic touch. It may not be a full fringe jacket per John Wayne, but nevertheless we get the boho feeling and easygoing vibe. A favorite fringed bag of mine is made by Free People, called the Spell and the Gypsy Collective Dreamweaver Cross-body. Its leather body is held together by a drawstring and trimmed with wonderful fringe. Minnetonka, a brand that is a “staple of American style”, also makes a great mini bag that can be carried as a shoulder bag or a cross body.
If you aren’t feeling the need to blast some Bruce Springsteen from your high-speed boat and cheers to the red, white and blue right now, well then I don’t know what to tell you!
