Hot weather I can deal with, but humidity defeats me. While the first week of classes is over, the muggy weather continues to linger. As much as I love clothes, the whole process of wearing anything except a bikini is less than appealing. However, the days of lounging poolside in Cali are long gone and I must find alternative clothing options. This Fashionista’s outfit caught my eye because it’s a socially acceptable way to stay cool while still showing some skin.
She creates her look with three basic pieces: a button-down, a bandeau and a high-waisted skirt. The lacey top and bottom creates a feminine vibe that is toned down by the laid back, plaid button-down. To add a pop of color, she sports a pair of turquoise sneakers, which complements the pale blue in the plaid. She polishes the outfit with a contrasting, royal blue cross-body—its color and size make it a perfect bag for this fall. The finishing touch is her scrunchie (it’s crazy how something like a scrunchie can transport you to back the ‘90s in seconds). Rather than tying back her gorgeous, carefree curls, she uses the scrunchie as an accessory. The individual components of her outfit work together to create a feminine, laid back look with an overall playful feel.
To emulate her style, strive to find a balance between femininity and casualness. Anything lacey or adorned with lace will result in a feminine vibe due to the delicate fabric and intricate design. To add a casual feel to your look, roll up the sleeves of a plaid or chambray button-down and throw on a pair of sneakers. Whether you’re into Converse, Keds or Superga like this Fashionista, sneakers are a great go-to option to help tone down a look. Hats are also a dependable go-to (and they will mask a bad hair day due to the humidity).
In terms of accessories, carry your essentials in a cross-body bag and maybe add a few simple pieces like a necklace or bracelet (or scrunchie!). Fight the humidity with a fun breezy look and embrace the warmth while it’s still here.
