With summer coming to a close, I always seem to be pulling out all the stops to wear anything and everything that brings me nostalgic thoughts of summer. Whenever I am looking for a summer outfit, I usually reach for the white lace pieces in my closet or prints. It was perfect, then, stumbling onto this Fashionista wearing two of my favorite summer trends in the same outfit! All too often do we try and keep our trends separate— a white lace dress, a simple white top with jeans or a printed dress with solid shoes. I think it’s time to step out of the box and mix and match some of these themes we love in order to create the perfect collaboration of lace and prints.
Lace has been around since long before I can remember, with each season bringing a new twist. It’s important to keep lace looking fresh and modern, but not letting it weigh you down into a Miss Havisham sort of look. This Fashionista’s high neck line is a great contrast with the peek-a-boo skin and lack of sleeves. You can always play up white lace by slipping on a colorful bandeau or printed tank top underneath for a little extra pop. With the take on two trends, it’s also an easy look to go from day to night by adding some gold accent accessories.
Mixing and matching prints, textures and styles can be a little tricky, so it’s best to keep your colors minimal and let the trends speak for themselves. This is best shown in this Fashionista’s look with the navy pants. Navy is such a versatile color; it’s a great staple color to have in your wardrobe, as well as a refreshing change from black. When you’re mixing prints with something like lace, or another busy look, try and keep your prints simple, but still talkative.
It’s sometimes easy to get overwhelmed, so start simple. Add a printed headband to your already fabulous look, or a pair of lace shoes to an amazing tribal dress, but don’t be afraid to let your creativity and imagination go just a little wild! That’s what fashion is for! Take some risks and have fun. Stay fashion forward!
