I have found that a constant theme throughout most of my posts this summer has been a laid back, easy style. From flowy shorts to rompers and jumpsuits, this summer’s Fashionistas have shown that dressing effortlessly is cool. If you’re looking for a piece to mix up your wardrobe a little but that stays true to a relaxed summer vibe, a kimono is the answer. As many of you probably know, the kimono originated in Japan. For the past few years, however, designers and Fashionistas across the United States have taken a fresher perspective on this classic Japanese piece.
Since a kimono serves as the statement piece of an outfit, make sure to choose one that you absolutely love. My favorites are crochet and lace ones like the one this Fashionista is wearing. For one similar, check out this bell-sleeve kimono from Urban Outfitters, this black lace one from Forever 21 and this cream fringe one from TOBI. You can’t go wrong with a printed one either. Try a pretty floral, a tie-dye or a paisley to make your outfit really stand out.
The key to a kimono is keeping the rest of your look simple. This Fashionista pictured nailed it with her high-waisted jean shorts, white tube top and white Converse sneakers. In addition to the kimono, she brought personality to her outfit with her bracelets and sunglasses. Because her outfit is pretty neutral, she could have further accessorized with a statement necklace and some nice sandals if she wanted to take her outfit from day to night.
What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “Kimonos are a fun way to dress up a casual outfit like jean shorts and a tank top for lunch with your friends or shopping. They aren’t too heavy, so they’re perfect even in the summer heat!”
