Let’s talk about tourism. Every study abroad student has to own the title of tourist at one point or another, but that doesn’t mean you have to dress like one. You don’t always have to scream, “I’m not from here” with a DSLR hanging around your neck and a map in your back pocket. Sometimes looking like a local can be just as easy as wearing a simple yet functional outfit that you love.
I found this Fashionista in front of the Berlin Wall of all places, looking like anything but a tourist. Her relaxed, easy and super fashionable outfit was perfect for a nice day out on the town in Berlin. Her fashion choices easily made her stand out among the sea of tourists and the miles of street art all around her.
How can you create a look that is so functional yet so hip at the same time? The answer is easy, a kimono! I have been loving the new trend of layering your outfits with a fun statement piece like this. Kimono’s are easy to find and even easier to wear. She proves how great they can be by throwing this floral print one on for the day over her darker pieces. It instantly injects some life into her otherwise back to basics outfit.
Personally, I think rocking a kimono with basic staples is the best way to do it. A fun, flowing and printed piece like this goes great with anything simple and can easily transition from day to night. You can rock it with your favorite ripped jeans and white tank or even over a little black dress like this girl and look perfectly pulled together. It adds personality and even a little culture to any outfit.
The other thing I loved about this Fashionista’s outfit was in the details. All of her style choices were not only a perfect fit for her ensemble but perfect for a day out sight seeing. She chose a good pair of combat boots for walking, a bracelet that popped with the colors on her kimono, a classic fishtail to keep her hair cute and composed and to top it all of a killer pair of sunglasses. I mean come on, who doesn’t look calm and in control when rocking a pair of Ray-Bans?
So next time you’re trying to think of a way to spice up that comfy outfit, try kicking it kimono style. There is no better way to say to the world, “I’m relaxed and fashionable” than with a relaxed and fashionable piece like that!
