STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Keeping Warm

Style Advice of the Week

After returning from our long luxurious six-week winter break, we were greeted with an unwelcome surprise known as the Polar Vortex. As it passed over the Southeast, a bitter chill settled over our lovely town of Savannah — a coldness that we are normally not accustomed to in the slightest. This cold was especially surprising for me coming from 70-degree and sunny Los Angeles. But, as art students always have a knack for doing, we adjusted accordingly. While we braved the weather, we were still able to hold onto our personal sense of style.

Even though I’m a girl, I have a distinct appreciation for men’s fashion. And I adore how in this outfit, this Fashionisto integrates his love of muted colors and interesting patterns. Not only that, but he effortlessly incorporates his personal style of vintage Goodwill finds and new purchases together. I personally love cruising the racks at Goodwill to find pieces you can blend into current fashions.

A well-known fact about keeping warm is layering. Here, for his button-up T-shirt and sweater combo, this Fashionisto mixes and matches two similar-colored pieces with different patterns in a perfectly harmonious way. Look for unique pieces that are not only fun, but also functional for a cold day out when you’re walking to class.

Although he bought both pieces vintage, a classic printed sweater is a staple to any wardrobe as it is cozy and warm. You can easily find one like his at Urban Outfitters or ASOS. A subtle marbled beanie, such as this one from PacSun, adds a hint of texture and practicality to your ensemble. Top your outfit with a pair of vintage-stye tortoise shell readers and you’ll look smart. And, even more importantly, you’ll be warm!

Take that, Polar Vortex.
