STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Keeping Warm In Color

January 25th, 2016 at 2:10am

As seasons change and temperatures drop, it becomes harder and harder to stand out in a sea of winter coats (unless you decide to stay warm inside watching Netflix in your pajamas like me). Finding a balance between warm and stylish can be a very difficult task, especially when you want to stand out. Luckily, I have a solution for you (i.e. how to be “fashionably warm” when layering with a pop of color).

Adding a statement piece to any wardrobe is the best way to stand out. In the winter, statement pieces are usually limited to your outerwear. Sure, a brightly colored winter coat is always a good way to stand out. However, if you’re like this Fashionisto, you always opt for neutral outerwear to make sure it matches everything. Good news for you, there’s another way to stand out among the crowd.

This Fashionisto demonstrates how a pop of color can really amp up your look. While keeping things simple with a black peacoat and classic pair of Levi Brand Jeans, his red V-neck sweater peeks through his coat adding just a touch of color. However, if you’re not lucky enough to have warmer winter weather and need to button-up, adding a detailed scarf works perfectly to keep warm and stay stylish. His Burberry-inspired scarf adds visual interest with a plaid pattern with touches of red. To top off his look, a monogrammed briefcase and pair of oxford shoes add leather accents and a personal touch. Together, his look is seamlessly classic and warm. By keeping everything else neutral, the scarf and sweater add just the right amount of color to stand out in a crowd.

What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “By layering a staple white button-down with a sweater and coat, this Fashionisto definitely keeps warm. Layering is the perfect way to personalize your look and mix different patterns, styles and textures. If your statement item is covered by your coat, add an accessory that adds visual interest when you need to button-up.”
