STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Keepin’ it Simple

We have all been victim to the fashion faux pas of just having way too much happening with our clothes. Too many patterns, too many accessories—we’ve all been there. It’s very easily to make this mistake, especially in the winter when you’re trying your best to look fashionable while still keeping warm.

We sometimes underestimate the power of simplicity. One statement piece like a funky sweater or a big necklace can make all the difference in an outfit that would otherwise be considered safe or maybe even boring. It’s all about having that one item that’s going to pop in contrast to the rest of your outfit.

This Fashionista does just that. She rocks the all-black outfit with a perfect base of black leggings (which show off her frame), as well as a with a simple black tank top. This combination of simple black pieces to start off her outfit make a great canvas, giving the Fashionista so much to work with. She could decide to wear a bulky necklace and dress it up, or a chunky scarf to get cozy. The possibilities are endless because of the simple decision this Fashionista made.

The statement piece that this Fashionista decided on was an asymmetrical sweater with the back being shorter than the front, giving a little edge and movement to the outfit. The stitching on the side is what really caught my eye while I was looking for a Fashionista to feature. The simple “x” pattern stitching on the side adds just enough edge and style that there is no need for anything else too busy on the outfit. If she had worn something else with an intricate pattern or bright color, it would have distracted and taken away from this tiny but stylish detail.

Polishing off with some tall black boots, this Fashionista is ready for any scenario that comes her way. The outfit is professional enough that if she were to run into a potential internship, she would knock them out with per appropriate but standout style. She can also slide easily into dinner with her friends or going out for an evening. The beauty of a simple outfit is that it can be easily changed, whether it be dressed up or dressed down for a certain occasion.

What is you STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “It’s not about how much your clothes are worth or the brand name on them; whatever makes you feel happy or confident wearing is what you should go with.”
