STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Keep It European

The weather in Poughkeepsie has made it downright tundra-like in the past few weeks. Another polar vortex is upon us, and I’ve found that the best way to cope is to make like Europeans do! Who better to take notes from than those across the pond who made winter as chic as can be? Europeans have a way of combining glamour and wearability into their street style in a way that’s timeless and completely cool. I studied abroad in London for a semester and always admired the way they combined femininity and masculinity for an urban and effortless look. I was taken back to that European cool in an instant when I saw this Fashionista. She so easily attained one of my favorite looks and added some personality in the most genius ways.

Fur is one of the most iconic European trends. It has made a statement lately, especially with colored faux fur that is so in at the moment. Those truly classic versions will never be out of place. The central focus of this Fashionista’s fabulous outfit is, of course, her amazing thrifted fur coat. She found it on a trip to London while studying abroad and has been wearing it constantly lately. It has the most beautiful natural color and is impossibly soft. The best part is how incredibly warm it is! If you aren’t so fond of wearing real fur, vintage furs or faux fur are equally chic options. Taking a cue from London’s tomboy aesthetic, she paired her glamorous fur with thrifted black jeans that she distressed herself and Chelsea boots from ALDO. They’re classically cool items that every Fashionista should invest in.

With such an iconic and classic base, this Fashionista went all out to add some personality to her look through her unique accessories. She started with round Ray-Ban sunglasses that suit her face beautifully and added a cheeky nod to summer that uplifted her outfit. She layered on a scarf stolen from her dad’s closet for some extra warmth. I love that it not only keeps with her cool aesthetic, but it also serves as a personal touch that is as comforting as it is cozy. For the finishing touch, she piled on rings inherited from her grandmother, which are the perfect vintage heirlooms to complete her perfect European-inspired winter look.
