STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Keen for Kimonos

July 6th, 2015 at 2:00am

It’s summer, Fashionistas/os, and that means the sun can finally come out of its hiding spot and illuminate everything in sight, including our outfits! Since summer has just begun and the Illinois weather is being very fickle at the moment, it can be useful to have something extra to wear over a tank top and shorts. Meet the kimono, your new BFF, which not only offers more warmth and coverage, but also adds in lots of style and color!

The kimono used to be a popular formal garment in Japan with different types and styles to go along with each season, as well as different occasions. They are loose, comfortable to wear and very eye-catching. It is never a bad idea to add some unique pieces into your closet because it can make any outfit even more special.

This Fashionista really shows off what the kimono can do with this outfit. Her black tank top, dark jean shorts and adorable nude wedges would look great on their own, but the kimono adds a pop of color with an adorable floral pattern. The sky blue color of the garment is eye-catching and helps draw attention to this Fashionista’s dark colored tank top and shorts. Not to mention, it was a little drizzly and the kimono helped this Fashionista stay warm and cover up while heading out to dinner.

What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “Wear something eye-catching and rock it, especially since the weather has been so dreary! Wearing something colorful with a bright pattern always helps me feel better, regardless of what it looks like outside.”
