STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: K.I.S.S.

Waking up for that 8:00 a.m., or even that 11 o’clock, class can be painful. Throw in the fact that it is currently 28 degrees outside, and I suddenly have no desire to ever attend class (or ever graduate). All of this aside, I still have to get up and inevitably get dressed.

I know I can sometimes run out of outfit inspo for my classes, so when I spotted this Fashionista on campus I was enthralled. I should have known that she was a fashion merchandising major, like myself, when I saw her rocking this look. The fact that it is all black makes it an instant classic, throw in the streamlined shape and the modern details and the look is perfectly avant-garde. Her lace-up sweatshirt features this fabulous shoelace detail, which is currently super popular. From lace-up gladiators and booties, to dresses and jeans, this trend is hot, hot, hot!

I am also OBSESSED with her cool satchel. It features a cross-body strap and small handles, and can even be reversed to reveal a cool cognac color inside. This bag can transition perfectly from carrying your books to class, to stocking up on your beauty essentials for a night out. Her outfit aside, the scrunchie is pure perfection and a great addition to the look (it’s like an homage to the ’80s)! This black and white striped scrunchie would work equally as well with her look, and would keep up with her playful-grunge vibe.

I think the best aspect of her outfit overall is its simplicity. A monochromatic outfit is always a good idea (especially if you are getting dressed in the dark), and it keeps you looking chic without seeming like a try-hard—because let’s be honest, its cool to be effortless.

What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “K.I.S.S: Keep It Simple Stupid! So many people focus on adding as much to their look as possible, but I like to keep it pretty minimal. Wearing a single color stops the outfit from getting too busy, and keeps your attention on the shapes and textures of the pieces.”
