STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Jet-Puffed

January 23rd, 2015 at 2:00am

January is here in full throttle. Temperatures here in Louisiana have hit their low and Tulane students have begun to hibernate. A Louisiana winter wonderland is nothing like that of its northern counterparts. Instead, our humid cold days make us regret not putting on that extra layer and wish for the beautiful snow-filled landscapes of the North. Don’t get me wrong, going to school in the south has its luxuries—but that doesn’t mean when the temperature gets below 40 degrees it’s a good time. So, when the going gets tough the tough get going, with vests of course!

This Fashionista shows how to stay warm for a temperate day in January. Her dark-wash jeans paired with her basic black T-shirt and cardigan is simple and understated. Paired with her mid-calf, tan boots and white, quilted vest her look not only keeps her warm but also nods to a preppier playbook.

The quilted jacket is usually a staple for the winter season. We see them everywhere and on everyone. But the vest is the jacket’s preppy counterpart. Perfect for moderate days when you need a little extra warmth, a quilted vest will add both texture and volume to an everyday look. Not to mention, it will break up a monochromatic look and offers a burst of color, like this one. However, the quilted vest isn’t just for those who love all things preppy. It can be translated into a more edgy ensemble, a grunge look when paired with a flannel underneath or even a more bohemian aesthetic. It really is a versatile piece that also keeps you warm!

With its added comfort and ease, there’s a reason these quilted vests are popular among Tulane students. The perfect go-to for a little extra warmth and texture, these vests are easy to wear and the perfect winter staple.

What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “My vest is the perfect staple to throw on with any look. Its pop of bright white stands out from all the black during the winter season; not to mention, it keeps me warm and looking put together!”
