STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Invest Don’t Stress

I’ve come to learn that with shopping, it’s all about shopping smarter and not harder. It can be so easy to impulse buy clothes with e-commerce purchasing. Our e-mails are flooded with promotions, we have our favorite store apps sending us push notifications and if our favorite blogger is wearing it we need it.  Our world has become so instant that we forget to take a step back and consider what we actually want to spend our money on.

My style advice is to invest in the basics but to spend less on the trends. Trends come and go, but staple pieces like T-shirts and jackets are items that can last years. The key is to spend more on what you love and less on what you like. It’s also important to keep in mind that investment pieces are subjective—they are all about what are “must-haves” for your own personal style.

This Fashionista loves to splurge on an amazing pair of jeans because they are versatile and comfortable. She sports one of her favorite pairs of black frayed denim with a classic gray turtleneck. I love this look because you can invest in the jeans but then opt for a cheaper choice in turtleneck. She then mixes her classic pieces with something more trendy like her textured statement coat and her silver hoop earrings. Her combination of trendy and staple pieces pulls together her timeless look.

Curating the perfect style for the best bang for your buck means educated shopping. Don’t let advertisements entice your spending. Take a tip from this Fashionista, and go shopping with key pieces in mind that you know you want and you will start to see your dream wardrobe come to life in no time.
