STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Indie Street-Urban Chic

We all adjust to new place at our own pace but when it comes to style, there is no waiting. A great Fashionista/o knows how to hold their own with their signature pieces, but at the same time knows how and when to adapt to their new fashion forward city. Who wants to stick out as a sore thumb? But the same time who wants to match everyone else around them? Nobody!

Born and bred in Minneapolis Minnesota, this Fashionisto moved to Los Angeles to pursue his career in music. Although this Fashionisto has traded his snow boots for sandals, some winter items have not left the closet. An indie-street or urban-chic style has evolved from this look. Having a thin and long stature, skinny jeans have always been a must. Lucky for the people of 2016 skinny jeans are still going strong, and do not have to sag to the point of: “do belts even exist?” Urban Outfitters and American Apparel have the perfect fit. This Fashionisto’s jeans are a dark wash black denim by Robert Graham as the Macateer Slim Fit jeans for men.

The under layer is a gray Nike hoodie which adds some texture to the outfit. At the same time, the “street” aspect comes in by layering a home grown St. Paul Saints jacket, a bulky vintage sports jacket piece. Locating one of these more letterman style jackets may take some luck at a thrift store, as they are no longer available on the main website. Ebbets Field Flannels does have a great collection of vintage jacket pieces from other teams.

Accessories include a Starter Hat for the Chicago Bulls, giving off a more style vibe than sporty. This is also constituting as a vintage piece, but they are available new and old online. Evoking a sense of Los Angeles flare, this Fashionisto’s Pharaoh chain necklace was made by a friend back in LA. Zumiez has a great look-a-like. His classic Adidas sneakers are worn down, a simple go-to for almost any occasion.

What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “What draws me to this style is that no one else will have the chance to ever have the exact same ensemble. Finding vintage or DIY pieces brings a sense of creativity and empowerment to my looks.”
