STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: How to Be a Cool Girl

October 6th, 2016 at 2:00am

Let me preface this by stating: I am by no means the coolest of cool, but I feel as though I have some solid tips for you to be. In my opinion, “cool girl” style entails encompassing the ins and outs of fashion that make you step out of your comfort zone. While this is a major key, staying true to your own style is incredibly essential as well. My advice for you is to enhance your personal style by trying new trends, such as the neck scarf.

In case you haven’t noticed, neck scarves are back in full swing. Yes, the accessory your mother, grandmother or even great-grandmother coveted way back when. Maybe it’s just me, but when I see someone wearing a neck scarf it screams cool girl. I think it’s because not everyone is brave enough to embrace them. The way I see it they’re just an oversized version of a choker, a trend we all know and love. Neck scarves make a statement without being over the top and are a simple way to add an element of chicness to any outfit.

The great thing about neck scarves is that there are endless ways you can style them. They look effortlessly chic with dresses, blouses and of course, T-shirts as this Fashionista demonstrated. Since this trend has such a lengthy history, you can easily find neckerchiefs in local thrift shops at affordable prices. While we’ve established that this vintage Parisian-inspired accessory may be a bit scary to style at first, I can guarantee you will look #RAD.

I absolutely adore the way this fearless Fashionista styled her rose patterned neck scarf. Pairing it with a plain white T-shirt and black skinnies gives a chill, laid back, “cool girl” vibe. Throwing on a distressed denim jacket adds just the right amount of edge. To top it all off, her killer ankle strap heels elevate this edginess perfectly. Western belts are another major trend this season and I love how she incorporated one into this outfit.

Well, Fashionistas, I hope this opened your hearts to the magical world of neck scarves and inspired you to give this trend a try!
