Style Advice of the Week

For many of us Fashionistas, graduation is right around the corner. College life is nearing the end. Done are the days of living right next door to your best friends and four-month vacations. Queue the post graduation freak out. Oh, and what’s that question that’s going to constantly be haunting you? Oh right, what am I doing with my life?

One place you can always return to is home. The simplicity of your hometown will welcome you back with open arms. After years of being away for university, trip or even a move back home always holds an incredible amount of nostalgia. Following years of personal growth away from your family and childhood friends, you return to your hometown as a whole new person. One with a different outlook on life.

And one with a totally different fashion sense.

Let’s be real. We all look back at high school photos and think, “Wow. How was that ever okay to wear in public?” Cringeworthy. Going away for college, something just changes in you. You start to develop your own style. You pick up on the fashionable trends of your campus and your new hometown. Your procrastination leads to you spending countless hours on fashion blogs rather than that Sociology research paper. All these factors make you the Fashionista you are today.

I’ll be the first to admit. I give my hometown a bit of a hard time when it comes to its fashion scene (UGGs alert), but this Fashionista proves me wrong. She is the epitome of elegance and modernity. The University of Alberta Fashionista wears a taupe Born Charmer Jacket from TOBI. It is a modern twist on the classic trench coat. Hitting perfectly at the knee, the jacket is a transformative piece that can be worn with many different items. This Fashionista pairs her trench with the American Apparel black Easy Jean and an effortless white tank from Alexander Wang. Don’t be afraid to throw this trench over a cute minidress either! The front pocket detailing, exquisite draping and lightweight material make this statement jacket a must for every girl’s spring wardrobe. The minimalist colouring of this Fashionista’s outfit is gorgeous. It’s simple, clean and chic.

From her gray Classic Q Natasha bag from Marc by Marc Jacobs to her Michael Kors runway three-hand watch, the delicate accessories incorporated into the outfit are right on point. The Fashionista is also wearing a dainty necklace and rings. Her accessories are subtle, yet eye-catching, which is a lovely mix with the statement trench.

And last, but not least, those shoes. My goodness. They’re the Naomi Booties from TOBI. The exposed heel makes it the ideal spring shoe. Wear them with denim or a dress, and you’re set.

So when you’re back in your hometown, appreciate your fashion evolution. Appreciate how far you’ve come and all the inspiration that has gotten you to this point in your life. And congratulate yourself on that.
