Style Advice of the Week

I’m not sure how many Gossip Girl fanatics we have out there, but whether or not you know every bit of trivia about it, you’re probably familiar with Blair Waldorf’s style. When the show first began, there was a fever! Navy and white, structured high-waist skirts, delicate cardigans, collared shirts, tights, ballet flats, pearls and headbands were everywhere.

Since I won’t be at Manhattan College until late January, I am reporting from Miami, and happened to run into a Fashionista that had glimpses of Blair’s style. Alexa Uribe, a freshman Industrial Design major at Rochester Institute of Technology in upstate New York, is spending her vacation in her hometown Miami and caught me off guard with her innovative casual spin on Blair’s signature accessory, the hair bow.

Dressed in pearls and a dainty collared shirt, much like Queen B herself, this Fashionista put an artsy twist on the bow headband by wearing a scarf tied around her hair. Her pop of color was quite innovative and gave the otherwise preppy clean look an edge. The look can be achieved by a simple collared shirt, a pearl necklace and finished by tying a scarf, preferably fringe-less small or sleek, around a low ponytail. Collars are an ongoing trend, so they can also be bought separately and worn over a shirt!
