STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Gorgeous in Gray

Fall is my favorite season for style and trends, as well as for my favorite color palette of black, tan and gray. This gorgeous Terp was flashing my favorite fall color in her nice outfit. The slitted shirt paired with a rocking leather jacket was the perfect look for a studious Fashionista. Even small details, like her brown lunch bag, added to the essence of this fab fall look. Her booties hit the spot to complete this RAD ensemble.

One other highlight to note, is the play of alternating levels within her look. The shirt is long, almost down to her ankles; it’s like a dress, causing us to lose sight of her figure. However, she did the right thing by pairing a leather jacket because we see her waist where the jacket ends. Also, the slits allow us to see her legs, and they create a nice movement in the outfit when she walks. Kudos to this Fashionista for knowing how to dress her body.

There is really no way to go wrong with gray. You can combine any variation of gray with nearly any color. Grays work especially well as outer layers. Gray oversized sweaters, cardigans, blazers and coats galore can all be both casual and professional in almost any setting. Just take a look at the Victoria’s Secret PINK line, which is mostly composed of grays and neons. However, at the risk of looking like a bad ’90s matching sweat suit photo, refrain doing the same gray on the top and bottom.

One of my favorite things to add to any outfit, particularly dark fall color palettes, is a pop of color. Next time you find yourself wearing all-black or your beloved gray, add a pop of color with a lipstick, a colorful scarf or a fedora to make your look stand out.

What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “Work well with what you’ve got. For example, this bag is a shopping bag I got from American Apparel; I think it’s cool, so I added it as part of my look. You don’t have to spend tons of money to look good. Fashion is what you make it.”
