It feels like just yesterday that I’d walk into Nordstrom’s BP section and try on countless pairs of oversized sunglasses. There were rows and rows of the round, bug eye shape and not much else to choose from. My favorite style was lime green and I’m pretty sure they covered half of my face, but I wore them until they broke.
In reality, that was just a few years ago, and it was the only time (aside from the ‘60s, of course) when the bug eye was totally on-trend. Now we pick shades to flatter our face. From cat eye to aviator to wayfarer, every girl’s got a favorite silhouette. That’s why I love that this Fashionista decided to stay quirky despite the availability of sleeker options that are out there.
Her circular sunnies are pretty gigantic but she tones it all down with a chic, all-black ensemble. She added just a touch of color with her bright red polish, chose comfortable ballet flats instead of something with a heel and decided on minimal jewelry. From her wavy locks to her casual, layered maxi she looks svelte, a bit bohemian and very Nicole Richie. In short, she’s got the type of panache every girl covets. But it all starts with her bold eyewear.
If you love what she’s got on her head, shop The Row or Urban Outfitters. If you need something with a bit more of a curve, House of Holland has you covered. For a mod pick with white accented rims, go for Rebecca Minkoff and if, like me, you prefer virescent accessories, House of Harlow and Free People provide totally retro lenses. Here’s to a look that’s every bit as eye-catching as you could ask for.
