The brave little Japanese Fashionista/o dolls known as Kawaii, which means cute, have had an enormous impact on the Fashionistas/os in America. I have always been fascinated with the artistic approach they have on fashion, but had never actually seen one. It truly takes a certain amount of courage and confidence to deck yourself out in cartoon fantasy-wear.
This Fashionista spotted around Belmont University’s campus takes a more fashion-forward and practical approach to Kawaii. She wore a pretty chic outfit including some high-waisted black skinnies, a cropped button-up and a pink floral kimono. She crafted the Kawaii aspect of her look with a rubber koi fish handbag, some rainbow platform shoes, neon green sunglasses, her signature pastel blue lips and flower headband.
If you want today’s Fashionista’s look, start with a basic outfit then throw on this vintage kimono from Free People. Next, add these rainbow platforms by Jeffrey Campbell. Stuff this koi purse with your belongings and don’t forget the silver jewelry. One of these handmade flower headbands and this Lime Crime lipstick in “No She Didn’t!” are sure to be the showstoppers in this look. Finally, finish everything off with these kelly green Persol sunglasses.
Fashionistas/os everywhere can learn a thing or two from today’s featured girl. She’s got so many things that make her memorable and that are exclusive to her personal style. She’s adopted Kawaii in a unique way by adding individuality and customization into her magical wardrobe. To experiment with Kawaii, just imagine yourself as a cartoon character. What would you look like? What would your signature be? Just remember, a little Kawaii can go a long way!
