Sometimes I wish I had the wonderful love affair that Daisy from The Great Gatsby does. A wonderful love affair with her gorgeous 1920s wardrobe, that is! Not that I’d mind a bit of Leonardo too.
The fashion from the flapper era is so chic and iconic, so I’m really excited that the old school Gatsby glamour– such as flapper dresses, soft colours, metallic and embellished pieces– is resurfacing in today’s fashion trends, thanks to the highly anticipated release of Baz Lurhmann’s remake of The Great Gatsby.
As a result we’ve been seeing an increased popularity of short hairdos, clean makeup looks with an emphasis on bold brows and lips, as well as drop waist hemlines. If you would like to inject a little Gatsby gorgeousness into your outfits, take a look at this week’s vintage-styled Fashionista.
She’s rocking a bunch of 1920s trends and her entire look makes for a really adorable, and not at all dated, daytime outfit. Her Daisy-esque pixie crop aside, this Fashionista’s drop waist dress is oh-so flapper girl! The sweet blue and white pattern looks lovely and really does remind me of the dresses women would have worn in the ’20s for a garden party at the estate.
The summery baby blue hues in her dress also contrast beautifully with her golden orange box-cut blazer and also boxy bag. The 1920s saw a lot of masculine-inspired pieces in women’s fashion– hence the short hairstyles and loose fitted clothing– so her jacket is a great addition to this Great Gatsby inspired outfit.
If you’d like to get your flapper girl on for a nighttime ‘do, why not go all out and wear a sequinned shift dress? For accessories, try wearing a string of beads or pearls around your neck, or give an embellished headband a go. Don’t forget to complete the look with a fur (faux, of course!) stole or coat to keep warm. I’m sure if you were ever to run into Gatsby, he’d think your outfit was great!
