Style Advice of the Week

Jack Frost officially arrived in Evanston this week, reminding us all what a real Chicago winter is like. Unfortunately, it’s time to bundle up—and fashion often comes second to warmth. While the puffiest coat and furry hat will shield you from the wind chill, the ensemble isn’t likely to satisfy the needs of a Fashionista.

We shouldn’t have to choose between our love for all things stylish and our need to stay warm, and this week’s Fashionista proves it! Her stylish, and notably cozy, outfit is slap in Mr. Frost’s face and a victory for style lovers everywhere.

First, let’s talk scarves. I have a slight obsession. Scarves do more than just a service to our necks; they can add depth to an outfit. We were all a part of the phases when it was cool to tie scarves around our necks bandana-style, and we’re all currently on the circle scarf train. I like to opt for large, bulky scarves that deliver maximum warmth and fashion. When paired with a slouchy hat, you have the perfect urban outerwear look. I love this Fashionista’s choice of scarf. Although you hardly see this shade of green on anything but army jackets, it looks great and is a unique neutral color.

This season it’s all about the long coat. They are taking over the runway and clothing racks at department stores so we might as well welcome them. The longer hem is polished and sophisticated while giving your legs the coverage they need on a winter night.

When the temperature starts to drop, we tend to reach for our UGG boots. Instead, invest in a sturdy pair of over the knee boots to keep you warm and keep up your style all season.
