STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Flannel Friday

Waking up for an 8:00 a.m. class has never been more difficult. As we head into the depths of winter, seeing our breath is a typical occurrence. All we want to do is stay cuddled in our warm beds for as long as possible. It’s no surprise getting up this early for class causes some stress on our outfits. Once our morning coffee pours into our veins, it’s safe to start our day by putting our best L.L. Bean boot forward.

By the end of the week, our outfit choices tend to be more causal. What better way to embrace this Friday than wearing a flannel? This trend has been around since way before our time. It is said to have started in the 17th century. It was fully embraced in the ‘90s during the grunge period. Flannels have turned into a closet necessity because of the different styles they can morph into. Although this trend is mostly popular in the fall, it’s very versatile and with the right pattern, can be worn all season. It’s also worn in different ways, which can change up your style from preppy to grunge. By buttoning it up, you can create a more uniform appearance. For a more layered look, you can leave it open and wear it as a jacket. This Fashionista chose to leave her flannel open and to pair it with a J.Crew vest. This has her style looking more preppy and equestrian-like. Adding leggings, L.L.Bean boots and ankle socks complement it nicely. Her socks allow her to keep her ankles warm from the blistering wind, but they also look fashionable. She also accessorized the outfit with a Marc Jacobs gold watch and some Alex and Ani bracelets, which matched the gold accents on her vest.

What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “I love to feel comfortable. My style is pretty basic but on the preppy side. I adore my L.L.Bean boots and vests; they’re always my go to!”
