Around this time every spring, I patiently await the arrival of the Coachella Music Festival. While I picture myself actually attending the festival one day, for now I just drool over the pictures of this spring’s latest trends. Festival fashion is no longer limited to just festivals. Trends spotted at Coachella can be found in every store and on every social media site. One of my favorite festival trends is the notorious maxi skirt. It’s glamorous yet still edgy, which is why it has remained a spring favorite for countless seasons.
There are many different ways to style a maxi skirt, but check out how this week’s Fashionista incorporated it into her look. She paired her skirt with a classic leather jacket and Dr. Martens. The soft pink hue of the skirt creates a contrast against the harsh leather jacket and black boots. This contrast works because the two styles are completely opposite; when paired together, they balance each other out effortlessly. She completed her outfit with a leather turquoise cross-body bag, hot pink sunglasses and a statement necklace layered underneath a longer one. The turquoise bag is a perfect choice for this ensemble because it gives it a pop of color without being too overwhelming. I love how she accessorized with silver layered necklaces. This is another popular festival accessory that pairs beautifully with the relaxed nature of the maxi skirt.
For a similar look, try this chiffon skirt from American Apparel. It’s bound to become your new closet staple this spring. Another option is this funky tie-dye skirt that is perfect for going away on vacation. Regardless of the pattern or color you choose, make sure to work a maxi skirt into your wardrobe this season. It’s a spring and summer essential, along with a great pair of high-waisted jean shorts.
