STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Faux The Last Time

March 26th, 2015 at 2:00am

Warmer weather is finally upon us! After months of dealing with the Arctic winds, us East Coast folk can now look forward to slowly storing our heavy-duty bulky winter parkas and finally donning our prettier, stylish outerwear. And what says fashionable more than faux fur?

Faux fur is synonymous with all things glamorous and luxe while still remaining fun and trendy. Dating back to the early 1930s, faux fur was introduced as an alternative to actual animal fur; this allows Fashionistas to still look ultra glam without having to hurt any animals in the process. From old school fashion icons like Marilyn Monroe to the Kardashians of today, fur (faux or otherwise) gives any look a touch of sophistication.

More recently however, these coats have taken the fashion scene by storm. By far, the classiest way to incorporate the faux fur trend styles range from the classic neutral coat and animal print to bright, neon colors and those with a shaggy finish. Get it cropped or oversized, faux fur coats dress up an otherwise plain winter outfit.

This Fashionista shows us a great example of how to work faux fur. Her otherwise all-black ensemble is instantly given a cool factor, thanks to her oversized gray, white and blue NASTY GAL coat. She dressed up her outfit with a pretty statement necklace, smartly choosing a neutral white necklace that would not clash with her coat. Working an edgy-cool look, she threw on a black beanie, matching infinity scarf and beat-up black booties, proving that you can be stylish and not skim on comfort.

What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “Always work a statement piece! Whether it’s a faux fur coat or a statement necklace, one standout piece can go a long way.”
