Flowing day dresses, bright pastels, lace and florals — springtime is by far the girliest, and therefore my favorite, of all the seasons. It can be hard to feel super feminine in the dreary winter when all you really want to do is throw on sweats and watch Netflix (I won’t tell). Once springtime blooms, however, I know that I am personally super inspired by the warm sun and unfolding flowers. Springtime is the best time to wear fun and girly pieces.
Today’s Fashionista wore a particularly intriguing outfit. While the pieces themselves are very feminine, the darker color scheme played down the overtly girly factor. Her scalloped linen shorts are the perfect springtime base. Linen is such a breathable material, so it is perfect to wear as the weather warms up. Contrary to denim short-shorts, linen shorts are a little more conservative and do not insist on riding up all day long. Sorry Daisy Dukes — you can get kind of annoying.
This pair of shorts, however, has a super subtle scalloped edge. Scalloped edges are one of the most feminine cuts in the book. From short-shorts, to tank tops, to flats, this sophisticated edging can put a girly spin on anything. Fashion icon Chloë Sevigny illustrates just how to pull of a fully scalloped outfit. Today’s Fashionista completed her simple outfit with a tie-front chambray top, black studded flats and a red lip.
This week, pick feminine pieces with not-so-feminine colors, or try more structured pieces in dainty shades. Never fear the power of dipping into contrasting styles!
