STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Eyelet And Denim

Style Advice of the Week

I’ve never really been big on wearing shorts—I think I own two pairs and only recently started wearing them. They never seemed like the most comfortable option (I prefer skirts and loose pants in the summer), but I always loved the aesthetic of denim shorts and sneakers.

This Fashionista models both of the summertime staples and puts her own dainty spin on them. I am currently searching for a brown leather belt much like this Fashionsita’s. I used to think that belts were merely accessories of convenience, meant only for holding up your pants and not to be seen. However, statement belts are especially good investments for the warm months, as people tend to wear less jewelry and other statement pieces. Her large belt buckle creates a focal point for her outfit, which is otherwise very understated.

As I’ve mentioned numerous times in previous posts, I love Converse sneakers. I have owned five pairs so far and just recently rediscovered a pair of high-tops from middle school. Low-top black Converse, like the ones this Fashionista is wearing, are my go-to pair, but I also love wearing more standout pairs in the summer because, as aforementioned, my outfits are usually more basic.

I love that this Fashionista opted for a white eyelet top instead of a T-shirt. While I live in white Hanes T-shirts, it is refreshing to see something other than a basic top with denim shorts and sneakers. Choosing a top made of a lightweight, cool material other than cotton is a good way to separate yourself from the droves of people wearing some variation of the same outfit.

Lastly, I love that this Fashionista chose a backpack instead of a purse or clutch. I love oversized bags, but they can be nuisances when shopping, standing on a crowded bus and whenever walking long distances is involved. A backpack allows you to bring everything you normally would (there has to be a psychological name for needing to carry everything with you all the time), but prevents shoulder injuries and frees up your hands.

In the remaining summer weeks, experiment with different fabrics in your beloved T-shirt and sneakers combination, and try a backpack or leaving all your stuff at home for once.
