STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Embrace Your Inner Farmer

As soon as the warm weather hit Syracuse, everyone was breaking out their dresses and shorts, but this Fashionista was spotted at Starbucks rocking something a little different: a jumpsuit! Totally military-chic, her brown belt, booties and bag were the perfect accessories to pair with her light green jumpsuit.

As classes drag on and the winter temperatures rise, many Fashionistas get stuck in the quick and easy option of leggings (Yawn!). But, sometimes a dress or skirt just isn’t comfortable enough for an outing, and a jumpsuit is the perfect solution. It blends the comfort of leggings with the one-piece convenience of a dress. It can easily be thrown on in the morning without much effort or coordination, and there’s no need to sacrifice your style in the process.

Another trend that has gone in and out of style is the structured military style and colors. It’s too early to say for sure if military will be in for spring 2016, but the way this Fashionista rocked this very polished look made me hopeful that it might be.

One of her personal touches to this military trend, was her ability to incorporate a few more feminine pieces, such as her delicate necklace, heeled booties and quirky glasses, to balance it all out and show her sweet personality.

When asked what her inspiration for this outfit was, this Fashionista laughed and explained that she was inspired by Clueless. “When the new girl comes, there is a group of mean girls who make fun of her for her baggy pants and flannel. They look at her and say, ‘You could be a farmer with that outfit!’ That was my inspiration. When I looked in the mirror this morning, I’ll admit it, I thought to myself ‘You could be a farmer in this outfit.’”

What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “Comfort is definitely my go-to. I like to say you should put in just the right amount of effort—not too much, not too little. I also like to think about what aspect of my identity I’m portraying with my outfit for that day.”
