STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Dress Up Denim

June 2nd, 2015 at 2:10am

A transition piece is essential to styling any outfit. It can bring that outfit to the next level. The combination of outfits that you can create are endless when you have something that can transition from day to night or even from season to season. This summer, I have seen students using typical fall and spring pieces to highlight their summer wardrobe.

When thinking of the denim jacket, I automatically think of men and women in the ’80s. Denim jackets were a classic element that was used to demonstrate their grunge style. New colors, washes, textures, fabrics and patterns have created many differing looks to the once grunge style. Whether it’s punk, vintage or preppy, there is a denim jacket for you.

The denim jacket is a transitional essential. This piece can be layered and bundled up for the cold or can be left loose to complement your summer or spring outfit. A denim jacket cannot only transition from fall to summer, but it can also transition from casual to dressy.

This Fashionista is a perfect demonstration of a casual summer use of a denim jacket. A simple pink maxi dress allows her to play around with not only accessories but with her denim jacket as well. This allows for the pattern on her jacket to be a key element of her look. The use of this pattern paired with a simple dress and accessories gives this Fashionista a casual bohemian look.

What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “Every girl needs that one transition piece to complement her style. I think that a denim jacket is a classic piece that can dress up any simple look.”
