STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Dress Me Up

Style Advice of the Week

As an avid skirt-lover you can bet I was thrilled to find this Fashionista rocking hers bravely in the chilly Davis weather. During winter quarter most girls tend to shy away from wearing skirts or dresses because they either think they’ll be too cold, or they just can’t figure out how to wear them for the cold weather. This Fashionista took a thrifted long skirt and cut it shorter for a more modern look. The dark pattern of it is nicely accented by her opaque tights, which also do the trick of keeping her warm, and her slouchy white T-shirt nicely balances the otherwise darker toned look she has on. I am especially fond of the navy cardigan that she layered over everything, but then again I am always a proponent of sweaters.

Styling skirts and dresses during cold months is surprisingly easy when you have the right tools. One of my personal favorite ways to wear them is by layering a flirty dress beneath a chunky sweater. To dress up this look you can go for a loose sequined dress like the Steal the Night Dress from Tobi. By throwing on a sweater over the dress you are not only keeping yourself warm, but you are also making the skirt of the dress appear shorter which will in turn make your legs look longer. A printed sweater like this one from Zara is a perfect match to accent the gold of the dress. Tights are essential to this look because they make it appropriate for winter as well as making it amazingly chic. Instead of sticking to classic black tights, a pair like these Over-The-Knee Suspender Tights from Urban Outfitters are a creative and cute alternative. Complete the look with these Zigi Soho Lead Booties in black and this Deena & Ozzy Wool Boater Hat.

The finished product is a look that is both cozy and chic, the perfect outfit to show off your style during a season when everyone else is wearing jeans or sweats. Who says you can’t be warm and cute?
