STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Don’t Sweat It, Sweater It

When I was little, my mom read a book entitled, Don’t Sweat The Small Stuff. I think the book was meant to calm her down when my brother and I drove her crazy, but it’s more important not to stress over clothes. Putting together an outfit is something we have to do 365 days a year, so we should make it an enjoyable rather than painful process, don’t you agree? When my mom wasn’t reading her book, she was helping me gather the staples needed for my wardrobe. In her words exactly, “With the right tools, you can reinvent your look over and over for years to come.”

Fashion is about having fun. It’s about taking nothing and making it into something. Sometimes that means literally piecing together an outfit, like this Fashionista did. Go through your closet, pick pieces you like and find a way to wear them. Let’s see: sweater dress, thigh-high boots, statement necklace. Check, check…and check! With a few simple additions, it’s easy to pull everything together.

Sweater dresses and oversized sweaters are really on point right now. This may have something to do with an affinity towards all things mini, or maybe because over-the-knee boots are still so hot. When put together, I think it’s a look that can’t be beat. Obviously I’m never opposed to showing alittle skin, but if frost bite is a fear of yours a pair of tights may be necessary.

A lot of people have trouble working their favorite pieces of jewelry into their everyday wardrobe, especially if it’s a statement piece. However, there’s nothing wrong with a “wow” factor. This outfit in particular is a bit bland without her jewelry, but the necklace really adds something special. Other little additions can make a huge difference as well.

In this case, all that was needed was a chic coat and some designer swag. A fuzzy coat for warmth and style matches perfectly with a classic Chanel purse. I’ll never say no to Chanel and especially here, this black quilted bag is everything!

WHAT IS YOUR STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “I can’t emphasize this enough; girls, we have to dress for our bodies. It’s easy to get distracted by what we see in magazines, but most bodies don’t match those of models. And that’s okay! It took me a while to understand that because of my shape I couldn’t wear all of the trendiest pieces, but I learned to love the things I could wear. I found pieces I did like and that looked well on me. You may not find my outfits on the runway, but there the best of both worlds: appealing to my shape and stylish.”
