STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Dolled Up in Denim

June 4th, 2015 at 2:00am

With the summer heat arriving, most people trade in their denim for something a little more free and breathable. However, denim can always bring a fresh and trendy vibe to any outfit regardless of the weather. It can be done through a pair of simple shorts or a fun blue jean headband. Another great thing about denim is that you aren’t tied down to just one look. You can choose from cut-off acid wash shorts, solid dark blue jeans, a button-down denim chambray shirt— the options are endless!

This Fashionista proves that denim can be a go to staple item no matter the season. Her cut-off denim vest brings an edgy ‘90s feel to a rather dressed up outfit. She paired it with a black lace maxi skirt, making the outfit perfect for a casual summer day. The outfit is finished off with ankle boots that give this Fashionista the perfect amount of added height.

Contrary to Katy Perry and Riff Raff’s look at the 2014 Video Music Awards, denim doesn’t have to dominate an outfit. This Fashionista does a great job of using denim as an addition to an outfit to dress it down. By having other parts of her ensemble that pop, the denim is used to keep the look casual and calm.

What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “A denim vest can be anything you want. Button up all the way to be a shirt. Throw it over a T-shirt or a dress. Put patches or buttons on it. There are a hundred ways to wear it. And don’t be afraid to wear denim on denim; the ’90s are your friend!”
