One of my favorite things about summer is everyone’s enthusiasm for a new wardrobe consisting of fun, summer prints and colors. No other time of the year is stepping out with a bathing suit top and casual bottoms more appropriate in the Florida heat than now. If your idea of the perfect summer outfit includes those perfect pair of shorts and breezy basics, take notes!
This Fashionisto showcases everything I love in a summer ensemble: light pieces mixed with playful accessories. The focus is on his amazing aquatic shorts, filled with colorful coral reefs and interesting tropical fish. A pair of shorts this unique don’t need much else to look complete. He chose to balance the print with a plain, white T-shirt and layered with a light denim shirt cuffed at the ends. The fact that they’re both light fabrics not only make them versatile pieces but ones you can keep in your closet all year long.
Finally, he accessorized with a red cap, tall striped socks and blue suede shoes (don’t you step on his blue suede shoes). They work together to complete the outfit in a way that complements his layered look but also strays from the typical. This tropical, atypical concept has been seen on several spring/summer 2013 collections including Altuzarra, Mara Hoffman and, more recently, Clover Canyon’s resort 2014 collection.
This week, make it your goal to do the same by reaching for the touristy section of tropical shorts and destroy it’s negative connotation with fashionable basics. Dive into the season with a summery print and layer with contrasting fabrics like denim and suede. Or, experiment with new ways to wear tropical through silk dresses, high-fashion anoraks and minimal accessories. In the end, you’ll be left with a lusciously textured look to soak in the sun: fashion paradise.
