STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Distressed Denim

Spring is finally here at Marist College, and Fashionistas all over campus have been celebrating and breaking out their warm weather wardrobes. Besides all of the usual sundresses and sandals, there are plenty of great trends for spring that would work with any style. One trend that seems to pop up every spring is distressed denim. The cool, relaxed vibe they exude is perfect for sunny days lounging on the campus green. Spring also means that lighter shades of denim are making their way back into outfits.

This trend can be added to anyone’s wardrobe no matter what their style. Distressed denim looks effortless as boyfriend jeans, jeggings or even shorts. Ripped jeans pair perfectly with graphic shirts or festival-ready crop tops. You can dress them up with strappy heels or down with a pair of classic sneakers. No matter what you choose, you’ll always look comfortable and on-trend.

This Fashionista’s distressed denim comes in the form of boyfriend jeans. The rips in her jeans look almost DIY, and the color is perfect for spring and summer. Her intricately beaded mustard top adds interesting detail but doesn’t compete with the denim. To protect her from the Hudson River breeze, this Fashionista is wearing a cozy zippered cardigan that is a great transitional layer to take into spring. She finishes the look with classic black high-top Converse All-Stars, which keep the outfit casual and effortless. Her jeans are the right amount of distressed without looking trashy, and the rest of her outfit has a relaxed boho vibe.

What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “When the weather gets warmer, I love to wear T-shirts and tank tops, but I always keep a sweater or light jacket with me in case it gets colder.”
