STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Desert Chic

Style Advice of the Week

When incorporating trends into the male wardrobe I tend to stress the “less is more” motto. Try to integrate one trendy piece into an outfit and it really lets that particular item shine. The outcome looks stylish but not fussy. This week’s Fashionisto is the perfect example of someone incorporating one hot ticket item into a simple, yet fashionable ensemble.

This week’s stylish student paired a warm sweater with some worn, dark wash denim jeans and one of my favorite trend items lately, a pair of Clarks Original Desert boots.  These particular shoes are not new to the fashion world. In fact, they became popular in the 1950s inspired by the crepe-soled boots that British officers wore in World War II.  Lately though, Clarks have seen a resurgence in popularity. They are the ultimate footwear for a casual-chic ensemble, since they are a mix of a sneaker and loafer, and can punch up any outfit with ease. They are so verstatile and can effortlessly work in any wardrobe. I love they way they stand out paired with a simple outfit like our Fashionisto’s, but they would also look perfect with slightly rolled loose jeans or chinos. For the daring, try a pair of Clarks with a suit!

If you’re looking for a pair for yourself, the ultimate pair is this classic desert boot made by Clarks. However, there are so many other brands churning out chukka footwear. I love this pair with a neon sole from Cole Haan. These calfskin chukkas by John Varvatos are very similar to the original Clarks, but are a nice change from the typical suede material. And girls, don’t forget, desert boots are for you too, I personally have a pair of the Clarks Original because I love the classic timeless feel of them, but there are tons of different options inspired by the originals. I love this wild leopard print pair with a pink sole from DV By Dolce Vita. This heeled pair is also a great option for those looking for a little height.

I’m not a huge fan of jumping on trends or fads because they are considered “in” for such a short amount of time. But trends like the desert boot, which have been around for years, are classic and timeless and should be in every man’s wardrobe. So if you’re looking to break away from the same old pair of Converse you wear every day, try a pair of desert boots instead!
