STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Dazed And Distressed

While I don’t disagree with Katy Perry that California girls are undeniable, her lyrics about our ‘bikinis on top’ and ‘sun-kissed skin’ don’t quite fit my image of the typical golden state girl. Speaking as a porcelain princess who would rather rock a balaclava than a bikini, I define classic California girl style as laid back, comfortable, breezy and effortlessly stylish. This week’s Fashionista is a born and raised Bay area babe and rocks this ensemble, especially her destroyed boyfriend jeans.

Boyfriend jeans have been a trend for about a year but haven’t faded from popularity, instead the trend has now grown into a big family of ‘over sized’ pants including the ‘girlfriend’ jean, ‘mom’ jean, and ‘dog’ jean. Ok yeah that last one was made up but can you imagine dogs dressed up in denim? Precious.

Be it skinny, cropped, boyfriend or dog- distressed and ripped denim is making waves in the fashion industry. They may say you pay extra to make your clothes look ruined, but I say they just look loved in the most perfect way. This Fashionista combines the distressed denim and boyfriend jean trends with these Brandy Melville jeans and continues the laid back look with her sweeping white tunic and big yet not too diva-like retro shades that block her eyes from the California sun.

This Fashionista paired the rest of her ensemble perfectly with the casual yet trendy jeans. Her Birkenstocks, a Bay area staple, prove that comfort is king and always on trend. She totes around a crossbody leather bucket bag that is gorgeous and trendy yet still a practical size, design and price point. Her colorful beaded bracelets are not only beautiful with her look, but make the world a more beautiful place. This Fashionista is modeling bracelets by 31 Bits, a socially conscious jewelry company that gives displaced women in Northern Uganda an opportunity to combat poverty through fashion. Great accessories for a great cause.

What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “Feel good in whatever you wear! Be comfortable. To me, style is more than just what you wear, it emanates from within.”
