STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Cut-off the Cold Weather

As colder weather approaches, most people tend to put away their summery clothes and finally bring their jeans out of storage. In the Sunshine State, the leaves start to fall (palm tree leaves, that is) and the weather finally cools down, happily signifying a new season is here. Despite the change, one fashion trend remains throughout most of the fall and, sometimes, winter seasons.

Warm weather states have a serious mood problem when it comes to fall. You wake up for an early class and it might as well be below freezing because your weather app says that it’s 65 degrees. However, by the time you are leaving class, shedding every single layer is top priority because you risk sweating to death if you don’t. Luckily, we Fashionistas/os have learned to adapt our style to the changing weather and have found that you can never go wrong with a stylish pair of shorts.

This Fashionista perfectly demonstrates how to rock a pair of shorts in the fall. Neutral colors keep the ensemble simple. A green-gray military jacket is layered over a black T-shirt, adding warmth up top. Light wash cut-off jean shorts are casual for any daytime occasion and look great with the simplistic details of her outfit. Little black booties add height and a skull patterned scarf provides just a touch of print. A small gold necklace and bracelet finish off the look, and complement the gold buttons on the jacket.

Whether they’re denim, cotton, casual or fancy, shorts have found their way into many fall season styles. They can look laidback with an oversized sweater, or dressy with tights and heeled boots. Having the freedom to wear shorts at almost any time of the year is an even better incentive to buy them. It’s always nice to get a lot of use out of something in your closet. Next time you think about packing away some of your clothes for the winter, you may want to reconsider those adorable lace shorts you just bought because you never know when you’ll have the opportunity to wear them.

What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “Mix shorts with light jackets, booties and dark colors to complement the new season. Shorts are a year-round choice in Florida, so mixing in dark denim shorts for fall makes it easy to stay cool, yet still look dressy.”
