STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Crops Make the Cut

Although the changing schedules prove that summer break is over, the weather does not; the official start of fall is still a few weeks away. This means very little for wardrobe change as many summer trends will follow into the beginning of the fall semester. This summer crop tops made a grand return to the closets of many Fashionistas, ranging in shape, material and embellishment. They’re being worn by A-list celebrities on both on and off the red carpet, and are even taking a trip down the aisle with brides and brides-to-be.

When considering this trend in the spring, I initially thought of the high crops paired with the extra low rises of the early 2000s; it was daunting. However, the crop top crept its way back into my heart as designers began to envision a new image of the crop top—one that is classic, elegant and fun. The return of the crop top has come with an attitude of modesty that extends its versatility to a number of events and occasions such as an appearance on the red carpet, a walk down the aisle or even a first day of school like this Fashionista!

This Fashionista turned this boxy crop top, a piece commonly associated with a slight slip of skin in the midriff, into a modest center point of her outfit as she paired it with a black circle skirt and simple black strap sandals. The all-black offers a polished ensemble that could easily be taken to a more casual look with the swap of the skirt for a pair of denim shorts or boyfriend jeans.

What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “Even if you like the crop top but don’t really like showing midriff, you can still wear it. Try changing up what you wear for each school year to find new ways to express yourself, but never wear something you’re insecure about.”
