STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Crop Tops

Style Advice of the Week

One of the top noteworthy trends spotted at the spring 2014 New York Fashion Week was crop tops and this Fashionista definitely knows how to put together the perfect street wear outfit revolving around this top! I personally love this spring trend because when worn the right way, the crop top is chic, sexy and sophisticated all at the same time.

When hearing the word crop top, some might be excited to flaunt off those hard-worked abs and on the other hand, the word may invoke scary images. I have to admit, this is not the easiest spring trend to wear but wearing a crop top definitely does not have to be intimidating! Today’s Fashionista proves that there are plenty of ways to style a crop top so that you are only showing a hint of skin.

Playing with proportions is a crucial aspect of fashion and knowing how to find a balance with your smaller top is a must! I love how this Fashionista paired it with a high-waisted skater skirt. I also recommend pairing the crop top with a pencil skirt. By wearing a more conservative, sleek and sophisticated bottom with a crop top, a more sexy style is created. This Express look is right on point!

Another key to pulling off the crop top that this Fashionista did perfectly is covering up. If your stomach feels too exposed, try layering a cardigan, jacket or blazer over your outfit so only a sliver of skin is showing in the front! This Fashionista wore a parka since it was a little colder out, but once the sun is shining I recommend a kimono!

Crop tops will be showing up everywhere this spring and summer, especially with festival season around the corner! By using some of these tips and this Fashionista’s look for inspiration, hopefully now you will feel a little bit more confident about trying out this trend!
