Style Advice of the Week

Crop tops have been around for quite some time, but they continue to grow more and more popular. They have become a wardrobe staple, especially when it comes to nightlife attire. However, if worn with the right bottoms, they can also be appropriate for the daytime. In fact, this Fashionista’s outfit creates the perfect day-to-night look. In the picture, she is ready to go out. If she switches the wedges with flats and throws on a cardigan though, her outfit is adorable for class.

American Apparel has crop tops of every shape, form and color. A basic black one like the Fashionista pictured is wearing is a definite college essential. I also love the off-the-shoulder and the turtleneck look, though. I sort of treat mine as my cotton mini skirts in that I have a lot of them for going out, and I mix and match them with different pieces.

Crop tops have become so common that the rest of the fashion world has shifted to accommodate the trend. Everything today seems to be high-waisted, whether it be shorts, a skirt or pants. I definitely think that crop tops are the most flattering when worn with high-waisted bottoms. I also think that the best kind of top to wear with something high-waisted is one that is cropped. I especially love this Fashionista’s printed skirt from Zara. It’s such a fun piece that deserves to be completely shown, and the crop top allows this. For a similar skirt, check out this printed one and this solid one from NASTY GAL. I am also a huge fan of high-waisted jean shorts. Urban Outfitters is always my go-to for these. This pair in the black and white print are my current favorites.

What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “I’ve always loved the mixed print look but have never been bold enough to try it. Instead, I pair my printed piece with simpler pieces so that it makes a statement, and I would advise others to do the same!”
