STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Crop Season

August 4th, 2015 at 2:00am

Crop tops, in my opinion, are one of the most versatile pieces of clothing. They look great paired with just about everything and the options are endless. They have become a staple in every Fashionista’s wardrobe and along every store’s shelf. You can go for the more classic option of a short sleeve crop top in a neutral color like white or navy, guaranteeing that it will be on rotation in your closet for every season. You can switch things up and go for a long sleeve, high neckline style in a print like stripes in order to feel a little more covered up or just to keep on hand for when the temperature gets a little chillier. Long sleeved crop tops are a fun way to play with proportions. Crop tops can be dressed up, dressed down and worn during every season.

When many people envision a crop top, the first thought that comes to mind is any ’90s female artist up on stage with their entire stomach showing. Nowadays, this is not the case. The tiniest sliver of skin is acceptable and in most cases preferred. Washboard abs is not necessary either. Every single body type can look sophisticated and stylish in a crop top. My personal favorite way to wear a crop top in the warmer months is with a pair of high-waisted jeans or a midi skirt. As the temperatures drop, I love to layer my crop tops. I’ll wear my T-shirt crop top underneath a leather jacket or my long-sleeved cropped sweater over a button-down shirt. I tend to go for the crop tops more on the plain side, and dress them up with accessories. When I came across this Fashionista rocking a crocheted crop top with fringe though, I loved it immediately.

If you’re still stuck on how to wear a midriff bearing shirt, this Fashionista can lend you some inspiration. She paired a knit, slim-fit top with olive green high-waisted shorts and strappy sandals to keep the look casual and to let the top do the talking. This Fashionista is rocking a few pieces of simple jewelry, but her best accessory is the fringe on her top. It is a statement on its own. Bring this top into the cooler months with dark wash high-waisted jeans, some rad booties and layer on a moto jacket or cardigan to keep the top as the center of attention.

What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “A lot of girls stay away from crop tops because they don’t want to show too much skin. There are plenty of ways to wear a crop top without feeling uncomfortable! You have to feel comfortable and confident in whatever you wear. Once you find the right style crop top for you in the right fit I’m sure you’ll have it on repeat!”
