I want everyone to think back to your days in high school. The absolute worst part of those four years, for me, was the dress code. Skirts had to be fingertip length, tank tops had to have a certain strap width and the list of stupid random rules go on and on. Not only did you have to wake up before the sun even came up, you had to find an outfit that fit all of these odd criteria. Now that we have passed that stage, we need to take advantage of one of the best things about being a college student: we get to wear what we want. With this being said, I am not advising you to wear your newest sequined hot shorts and bralette to class. There is still a certain level of professionalism that should be presented through the clothes you wear.
This Fashionista’s outfit is perfect for any day on a college campus. Her crop top would be oh-so-scandalous walking down those high school halls, but things have changed and now we actually have a say in what we wear. I have to be honest; I am a crop top fanatic. I could not be happier that this ’90s trend has made a tremendous comeback. The key to pulling off this piece around campus is to make sure it’s not too revealing. Find tops that aren’t super tight and only reveal your lower midriff. Showing your whole stomach is probably not the best choice you could make with your outfit when walking into a professor’s lecture.
High-waisted black pants, a leather book bag, sneakers and amazing accessories complete this Fashionista’s outfit. These pieces give her ensemble a cool and relaxed feel. When showing off skin, sometimes less is more. The gray scale color palette of her outfit is more tasteful than if every piece would have been a bright color.
This week, don’t be afraid to break those old high school dress code rules. Embrace the fact that you have freedom when it comes to fashion. Take risks and be different from a crowd simply because you can.
